Community Events

By planning and hosting community events, Leap Forward hopes to:
  • Increase multicultural and intercultural understanding and appreciation
  • Provide opportunities for youth to contribute to their community
  • Provide opportunities for youth leadership and engagement
  • Increase the resources and support youth and their families in the community
LEAP's annual celebration of
Black History Month incorporates entertainment and reflection, activities for all ages and a shared meal prepared by a local catering company.

LEAP recognizes African and African-American community leaders at the event, and showcases the talents of youth and adults from the community.

Planned by a team of collaborative partners, the event is free and open to all.

Crunch, mascot to the Minnesota Timberwolves, was LEAP's special guest for the 2010 Back to School Festival.
Free school supplies and rock-climbing challenges were also part of the day, as well as activities and interactions with a number of community organizations.
The event drew about 1200 Summit-U/Frogtown youth and parents.
